The Ice and Fire is an adventure tour that takes you to the highlands of this extraordinary island.  This tour combines the nature that is one of a kind and the great hospitality of Iceland,  with a mountain expert that will make sure that you see the best that the country has to offer each time.

Let us take you on adventure, one you will never forget.


Day 1  Arrival in the land of ice and fire

Transfer from the airport to Reykjavik and your accommodation.    If you arrive not too late in the afternoon you can explore the city  before having a good night rest for the adventure ahead.

 

Day 2  Reykjavík City / Þórsmörk Valley / Valley of the gods

You are picked up at your guesthouse/ hotel in Reykjavík by your driver guide and his Super Truck.   Crossing over Glacier Rivers and rough terrain to the green valley of Þórsmörk . It is one of the brightest pearls in the string of beautiful areas of the country, surrounded by rugged and majestic mountains, glaciers and glacial rivers.

In Þórsmörk you will make a short hike and enjoy the nature. Leaving the vegetated area you head to the total opposite; the glacier Mýrdalsjökull but under its thick layer of ice there is an active volcano, on your way you pass the infamous Eyjafjallajökull glacier From there you will  enjoy the sight of Skógarfoss, a clear  and beautiful waterfall before heading to your resting place for the night.

  

On  Mýrdalsjökull glacier optional:

Duration – 1 hour on the snowmobile

We have the opportunity to drive further through the world of ice on snow scooters, there is something exhilarating about the feeling you get when going over a glacier on scooters!

 

Day 3  Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Skaftafell National Park

We start the day by heading south to the Glacier Lagoon.  The colors and shapes of the Jokulsarlon are astounding its one of the greatest natural wonders in Iceland, travelling in this dreamlike world, dwarfed by the calving icebergs, man marvels at the majestic magnitude of nature.

We take a leisurely boat ride between the glacial icebergs exploring the wonders of this mystical lagoon.

Heading back we stop at the National park Skaftafell for a short hike to Svartifoss waterfall before we find our resting place for the night.

 

Day 4 Lakagígar volcano craters / Fiery Iceland

Today we will take our Super Truck off the beaten track and explore the more fiery side of Iceland. Lakagígar is a volcanic fissure that opened up on each side of Laki. The system erupted over an 8 month period during 1783-1784 and it has been estimated to have killed over six million people globally, making it the deadliest volcanic eruption in historical times.

The area is filled with exiting caves to explore and we will take full advantage of them and the adventure that they have to offer in the enormous lava field. The caves are magnificent and have some of the clearest signs of the lava flow that once bubbled this way

Then we return to our previous resting place for the night

 

Day 5 Landmannalaugar / Behind the mountains

We drive through the legendary mountain path Southern Fjallabak "behind the mountains" with spectacular view over both Vatnajökull glacier and Mýrdalsjökull glacier.

Our first stop is by Elgjá the largest volcanic canyon in the world before we head through the Landmannalaugar this pearl of the interior is situated in a valley between colorful mountains at the dark edge of the rhyolite lava field Laugahraun.

So we cross rugged lava fields, unabridged mountain rivers and sprawling arctic deserts, we reach our destination, a landscape of sweeping mountains and hot and cold springs which mix together to create the ideal setting for a relaxing swim or refreshing walk. Situated in the highlands of Iceland and after traveling through the ever changing landscape we are refreshed and energized and then we head to our overnight

 

Day 6 Landmannalaugar / Reykjavík

Leaving this natural oasis, we head for the slopes of Hekla, Iceland’s most active volcano, before beginning our journey back to Reykjavik. We then continue to Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls and to Geysir probably the world’s most famous hot spring.

In the afternoon we head to Thingvellir National park, home of Iceland’s parliament from 930 to 1798. It is also the point on Earth’s surface where the North Atlantic ridge splits the two geological continents of North America and Eurasia. 

 

Optional:

 Horseback riding
Duration – 1 hour on the horse

Available beginning all year but depending on whether and circumstances

 Quad bikes

Duration – 1 hour on bike

The ATV-quad bikes are a great addition to the Golden Circle day.

 River rafting

Duration – 1 – 1,5 hour on the river but total 3 hrs

Available beginning of May to end of September

Enjoy a river rafting ride of your choice and at your level ― the Hvítá river meets everyone's ability level for great river rafting fun.

 

Day 7 Departure day

Transfert from your accommodation about 2,5 hour before your flight leaves. If you have an afternoon flight you could add a stop in the Blue Lagoon before you return home

 

Our Super Jeeps / Trucks are heavily modified 4wd jeeps. The tires are large,
38-44 inches in diameter, giving the Super Jeep very high clearance from the ground. The way these specially equipped jeeps are used in Iceland is unique in the world.
