Luxury Basecamp On A Glacier

Day 1 – Arrival

A host from HL Adventure welcomes you at the airport and takes you to your hotel in Reykjavik. When at the hotel, our qualified guides will go through the list of clothing and other items you need to pack for the camping trip the following day. The rest of the afternoon can be used to go shopping or stroll around the down-town area before going for a dinner at the famous restaurant Perlan. This rotating restaurant located on top of old water tanks on the hill of Öskjuhlíð, gives you a panoramic view of the city while you enjoy your dinner.

Day 2 – Glacier camp

The mission of the day is to go to our private tent camp on Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland covering 1.021 km2. We jump into the Super Jeeps waiting for us outside the hotel, but these jeeps with their wide 44” tires are absolutely essential when travelling in the highlands or upon glaciers. We will drive out of the city and head towards the highlands. We will drive through Thingvellir national park, home of the world’s oldest parliament and the place where you can see the EuroAsian and American tectonic plates meet. On the way we will experience some of the pearls of Icelandic nature, beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, lava caves and hot springs in the Geysir area, before we start our drive upon the glacier. When arriving at the camp, setup the days before by our staff, we will start by exploring the area around it before having a gourmet dinner prepared by our caterer. We will overnight in our comfortable tents with beds, heaters and other necessities. There is nothing as nice as sleeping in a warm and cozy sleeping bag on a glacier, enjoying the silence of the night.

Day 3 – Icehiking and visiting an Ice cave - Lodge

We will use this morning to explore the glacier further, either by foot or by snowmobiles. We will put on crampons and do some easy hiking on the glacier, discovering it’s abundance of ridges and crevasses. We will visit an ice-cave which goes deep into the glacier and explore wonderful ice formations and natural sculptures. We will have lunch before saying goodbye to Langjökull glacier. From the glacier we will continue our trip in our Super jeeps, driving through some of the most beautiful landscape in Iceland. The Mountains and waterfalls all around and occasional hot spring or pool make this drive one to remember. The variety in the landscape is vast, sandy deserts, magnificent mountains, green valleys and bubbling hot springs. We will stay overnight in a private lodge where our chef has prepared a gourmet 5 course dinner. We will enjoy a night-cap and swap stories before turning in for the night.

Day 4 – Fishing village – Blue lagoon

Today we will be in volcano-land. We will explore the eruption area around Eyjafjallajökull, the infamous volcano which affected flights all over Europe when it erupted recently. We will visit the green valley of Thorsmork national park, the pearl of the interior, see the beautiful waterfalls Seljandsfoss and Skógafoss before cruising the black, sandy beaches of the south coast on the Super Jeeps. The black beach is the perfect setting for a nice lunch, with a view into the Atlantic ocean where we can see the Vestmanna islands rise from the water. We will visit the small fishing village of Stokkseyri on our way towards the geothermal Reykjanes peninsula. Our next destination is the famous Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa and one of Iceland’s most unique and popular attractions. The lagoon is rich in a combination of natural minerals which gives the lagoon its soft, milky aquamarine color. We will enjoy a bath and cocktail in the warm water of the lagoon, surrounded by black lava, before going into the treatment rooms for a relaxing massage. From the Blue lagoon we will go to our hotel in Reykjavík, arriving late in the afternoon. We will have dinner at the Seafood cellar down-town, one of Iceland’s renowned restaurants, before using this last night to try out the colorful weekend nightlife.

Day 5 – Departure

The host from HL Adventure we transfer you to the airport in time to get your departing flight after a memorable trip to Iceland. Have a safe journey back home.
